Composting at the farm
We’re excited to launch SoCliff’s composting program for our customers. Please make sure to read all of the information below before bringing your compost to SoCliff on Saturdays during the farm stand (9 a.m. - 2 p.m.).
Nuts and bolts:
$5 per drop-off
Typical local compost pick-up services charge about $33/month but with us, you just pay $20/month if you bring it weekly.
5-gallon bucket size max per drop-off. It can be more but we reserve the right to adjust pricing if an individual/household consistently brings more than a 5-gallon bucket every week.
Why bring your compost to SoCliff:
Close the loop from soil to veggies to compost
Healthy soil > healthy plants > healthy produce
Another way to support the farm
Take advantage of your trip to SoCliff - don’t spend money on extra fuel to take your compost elsewhere
What can be composted at SoCliff:
Food waste: veggies, fruits, breads, egg shells, table scraps, coffee grounds
Paper products with no or minimal ink: bags, napkins/paper towels, coffee filters
Plants: flowers, leaves, houseplants, dirt
Grass clippings require pre-authorization from SoCliff based on what lawn products might be used
What can’t be composted at SoCliff:
Stickers
Rubber bands or twist ties
Meat or dairy products
Tea bags (since it’s hard to distinguish which ones are made of plastic or not). We recommend cutting the bags open and dumping the leaves into your compost bucket and throwing away the bag.
This is not an exclusive list.
